Keen followers of noted hip-hopper and N.E.R.D front man, Pharrell Williams should be directed to his blog where he is currently showing off his modified G-Shock watch.  For those too lazy to click the link, here it is.  Very bling blong! (or whatever the kids say these days)

Citizen have staked out a new position as the leader in Eco-Friendly timekeeping with their light powered Eco Drive watches range.

The 3100 model is a classic dress watch which has a dark leather band with the watch face having an old fashioned look with roman numerals.  At the 12 o’clock position you will find a stand out display offering a perfect calendar date, which will never need adjusting (until the year 2100, apparently).

The Calibre 3100 watch is ideal for everyday work or casual wear.  The stainless steel case is generously sized and surrounds the black chronograph dial which is complete with silver tone hands, markers and roman numerals at the 2, 4, 8 and 12 o’clock positions.  The case is complemented by the textured black leather band which imparts a comfortable sophistication.

The only criticism we can make of this watch is minimal in that the anti-reflective crystal is made of mineral glass as opposed to the more expensive sapphire crystal, but overrall this is one of the classiest Citizen designs to come out for years - a serious timepiece for serious watch collectors.

awimport-accurist-gents-chronograph-black-steel-watch-33160136The first thing that will strike you about this particular Accurist black steel designer watch is the excellent presentation.  It comes in a white lined watch box and an outer thick white box.  The watch itself is a tasteful shade of silver thanks to its stainless steel band and case.  It certainly looks more expensive than it’s price would suggest.  The watch has a good solid feel as it is nice and heavy and it’s striking appearance means that it could be used for any occasion, whether it be casual, work or formal.

The Accurist chronograph has a multitude of functions including:  analogue and digital display, world time display (for 30 countries, all of which can have alarms set for), chronograph timing which is accurate up to 1/100th of a second, lap and split time functions, countdown timer (up to 99 seconds) and an electro luminescent feature for the LCD display.  The light function for the LCD display is good, however when it is entirely dark it really isn’t required as the glow in the dark markings on the watch are really quite bright.

For such an attractive watch, the Accurist chronograph watch is extremely durable.  It can take a few knocks and bumps without showing any noticeable internal or external wear and tear.  All in all, for the shopper on a budget this is an extremely good looking watch which will serve you well on any occasion.

When buying a watch you should first ask yourself ‘what do I want a new watch for?’.  Is it going to be for everyday use (assuming such use is not formal wear) or are you more likely to use it for specific sports such as running or diving? Read the rest of this entry »

There was a lot of attention surrounding the release of the Tag Heuer Golf watch, due in no small part to the involvement of Tiger Wood’s in both it’s development and launch.  Conventional golfing wisdom states that you should remove your watch when playing a serious match as it can seriously interfere with your swing in different ways.  It was with this in mind that Tag Heuer and Tiger Woods set out to change all that by designing a professional golf watch that works with golfers rather than against them. • A is for ARNOLD, JOHN - English Watchmaker (Born 1736, died 1799).  John Arnold and his rival, Thomas Earnshaw were the first to produce chronometers in significant quantities.  Arnold set up a small factory in Essex in 1788 where he was the first to produce a pocket chronometer.  He turned his attention to more accurate timepieces, eventually inventing one of such quality that Captain James Cook used it on his south sea voyages!

The Seiko Arctura is a sharp and stylish looking watch whose unorthodox design certainly works in it’s favour.  The dials exhibit a high clarity of visual arrangement, which makes for uncomplicated time reading.  The main dial has machined cut outs for the sub dials.  All the markings appear to be extremely precisly positioned too, though it could be argued that the ‘min’ and ’sec’ subdials are perhaps unecessary.  Seiko has moved the date window on the newer Arcturas and have dropped the ’sec’ label.

The Arcturas has a real quality finish and fit thanks to it’s unique arc design (hence ‘Arcturas’) and brushed stainless steel.  Despite it’s size, the gently arced case wears very well on the wrist.

This Seiko watch may be let down a little by it’s Chrono features, or rather lack thereof.  It operates well and the pushers work with a more than adequate amount of resistance however there is no lap time facility which is a surprising omission for such a quality watch that has been crafted with such attention to detail.

In conclusion, the Seiko Arctura an unconventional looking watch that is certainly eye catching and has a comfortable fit and amazing finish.  If the lack of lap time facility isn’t a dealbreaker then this is certainly a watch worthy of your consideration.
