There was a lot of attention surrounding the release of the Tag Heuer Golf watch, due in no small part to the involvement of Tiger Wood’s in both it’s development and launch. Conventional golfing wisdom states that you should remove your watch when playing a serious match as it can seriously interfere with your swing in different ways. It was with this in mind that Tag Heuer and Tiger Woods set out to change all that by designing a professional golf watch that works with golfers rather than against them.
It was decided that the Golf Watch would have to be lightweight and strong. For this to be the case, titanium was the most suitable material to use. As a result, the watch is 60% lighter than Tag’s other steel watches.
The clasp is actually integrated into the case of the watch in order to keep it out of the way. To release the strap, you need to press the two safety buttons which are located at the 10 and 2 o’clock positions.
The crown on the Golf Watch is placed on the opposite side to which you would find it on normal watches. This is an error that has been made on purpose as having the crown at the 9 o’clock position rather than 3 o’clock prevents it from digging into the golfer’s wrist or snagging on his glove. Why aren’t all sports watches made this way?
Due to the movement that the watch is going to be subjected to, Tag Heuer have developed at special silicon slide proof strap. This strap is very lightweight, shock absorbent and will be able to take the heat as it will expand and contract with the golfer’s wrist as necessary.
Over time, the shock caused by a good solid watch swing will damage a normal watch. Due to the shock resistant properties of the Tag GOlf Watch, it is able to withstand a shock 45 times that generated by a typical golf swing. Hugely impressive, I’m sure you’ll agree! Automatic watches can sustain damage by the rotor revolving too violently during movements such as those encountered in tennis or golf. It is for this reason that Tag opted for the stability and exceptional accuracy of quartz.
So if you’re a golfer in need of a watch, this one really is a no brainer as it has been designed literally with you in mind. And for all of you golfers partial to a round in the evenings, the luminous hands and timer marks will ensure you know what time it is when you get to the 19th hole for a drink.
