Amongst all the media furore surrounding Tiger Woods and his many apparent ‘indiscretions’ it was a surprise to no-one when Tag Heuer jumped on the bandwagon of sponsors decided to drop the shamed golfer from their advertising campaigns. Although they continued to back his charity foundation, Tag CEO Jean-Christophe Babin decided to “take account of the sensitivity of some consumers in relation to recent events”.
With all this fresh in our memory it was quite a surprise to see Tiger Woods featuring in a promotional video on Tag Heuer’s official site:
Once details of Woods’ alleged affairs emerged, the Watchmaker removed all photos from their site but it would appear that the line they are taking now is ‘forgive and forget’. Will we start to see similar backing from Tiger’s other sponsors or are Tag Heuer taking a calculated risk? Only time will tell.

How this news slipped by us at Watchsuperstar we aren’t sure, however last month it was announced that watch making giants Tag Heuer and Zenith had merged under a new holding company, LVMH Swiss Manufactures SA. The newly restructured company is lead by Tag Heuer CEO, Jean-Christophe Babin.
This may sound like big news, however it seems little will change at Tag Heuer with the reorganisation being on mainly in terms of the company’s legal, administrative and financial departments. It is believed that each brand will still be retaining their own operational management.
Unsurprisingly, the current financial climate has been the driving force behind the restructure as Swiss watch manufacturers have been hit hard by the economic crisis. The merger has meant that Tag Heuer and Zenith have been able to effictively remove duplication of behind the scenes costs without significantly impacting on the watches that the customers see.
So for the moment it seems that this deal is nothing much to shout about, however in light of the financial difficulties that larger watch manufacturers seem to be having it will be interesting to see how independant watch makers cope over the coming year.

Along with Rolex watches, Tag Heuer watches are some of the most often replicated mens designer watches around. But luckily as they are the most expensive designer watches it means that imitations are often cheap and fairly easy to spot. If you are thinking of treating yourself to a Tag Heuer watch, here are several tell tale signs to look out for that will help you check whether the watch you are about to buy is authentic.

Step 1
First you should check the quality of the craftsmanship and examine the printing on the face of the watch. A real Tag Heuer watch should have crisp, clean printing. A fake watch is likelyto have fuzzy printing and you may find that the letters run together. Make a point of looking for glue showing through anywhere or whether there are any rough edges as an authentic Tag Heuer will be perfect and smooth.
Step 2
Next you should take a look under the crystal. If there are traces of fingerprints, dirt, hair, or you see anything else under the glass that covers the watch face then that will be a clear indication of a fake. Tag Heuer has extremely strict quality control guidlines that the forgers wont.

Step 3
An obvious suggestion is to examine the luminosity of the printing on the watch face. You should easily be able to read the time in the dark since Tag Heuer uses LumiNova on the numbers as well as the hands of the watch. Imitation Tag Heuer designer watches will use a much lower quality material that doesn’t hold a charge for long and isn’t as bright. Try holding the watch up to a light for a minute or two in order to charge it then take a look at in the dark. If the glow of the printing is strong and it lingers, it’s almost certainly authentic.
Step 4
Look for the words ‘Swiss Made’ on the underside of the face. Some fakes will actually say ‘Japanese Movement’, which is a clear indication of a fake as this is not printed on any genuine Tag Heuer watches.
Step 5
Finally, make sure that you check the band for links. You should look for a left and right piece to each of the links. Fakes will more than likely have solid links, alternatively they may have a line on them that is supposed to fool you into thinking that the links are two pieces.

There was a lot of attention surrounding the release of the Tag Heuer Golf watch, due in no small part to the involvement of Tiger Wood’s in both it’s development and launch. Conventional golfing wisdom states that you should remove your watch when playing a serious match as it can seriously interfere with your swing in different ways. It was with this in mind that Tag Heuer and Tiger Woods set out to change all that by designing a professional golf watch that works with golfers rather than against them.
